 Flower Painting

Hellebore and Primula (watercolour)

Many of Diana`s subjects grow in her garden. Often the self-seeding of plants will suggest combinations of plants and colours. In this painting a self-sown Primula has appeared alongside two varieties of  Hellebore.

Diana’s flower paintings are mostly in watercolour, not

botanical but detailed, with an appreciation of structure

Diana is Chairman of  the Penarth Horticultural Society, a member of the Royal Horticultural Society and The Friends of Dyffryn Gardens. She is a keen and knowledgeable gardener and plantswoman opening her garden for the NGS yelow Book Scheme

Anemones in a glass vase (watercolour)

Pink Paeonies (watercolour)

This Paeony was growing in the garden when Diana moved into her house over thirty years ago. It had forced its way up throught the base of an old air raid shelter, the variety is unknown. It is full-petalled and beautifully scented.

It was nearly lost three years ago when it developed a virus but, with careful selection of healthy roots, it has recovered and is now flowering again
